Featuring Guest Presenters:Â
Sean Southey, Canadian Wildlife Federation: Sean brings over 30 years of experience in the field of conservation. Here’s a little about his impressive background:
- Five years with a provincial environment ministry
- 10 years as President of PCI Media, a conservation NGO based in New York City
- 12 years with a United Nations environment team
In addition to these roles, Sean was elected Chair of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Commission on Education and Communication (CEC) since 2016. He’ll continue to serve as chair for the next year, until his term is completed.
Throughout his career, Sean has worked tirelessly to drive behavioral and social change, always placing conservation first. At CWF, he aims to foster a true culture of conservation across Canada, inspiring collective action and lasting impact.

Maya Basdeo: Maya currently works in the role of Course Support for the UW Ecology Lab, and is completing her master’s degree in Environment, Resources & Sustainability (Fall 2023). Her research explores the relationship between outdoor recreationists and participation in conservation actions and initiatives. Maya is a Provincial Director-at-Large and Chair of the Small Game, Migratory Birds & Wetlands Advisory Committee with the Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters (OFAH), and is also involved with several working groups of the IUCN.Â
SATURDAY NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT – KARISSA HOFFART:

Karissa Hoffart from Weyburn, Saskatchewan (Region 4). She is a local singer/songwriter that has performed at the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA) and Country Thunder in Craven. She grew up at her family’s ranch in the Big Muddy of Saskatchewan. Karissa has opened for Tenille Arts, Doc Walker and Gord Bamford just to name a few. Karissa also performed with her band at the 2022 Grey Cup Festival. She has 12 songs on digital streaming and five music videos on YouTube.Â
