CELEBRATING HERITAGE DAY IN SASKATCHEWAN
November 15 has been set aside to celebrate Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Heritage Day each year in Saskatchewan.
“Hunting, fishing and trapping have played an important role in shaping Saskatchewan’s social, cultural and economic heritage,” Environment Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. “Hunters, anglers and trappers are stewards of our environment and by purchasing licences, they are key funders of conservation, restoration and management of fish and wildlife habitat within Saskatchewan.”
“The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) is thrilled to be celebrating Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Heritage Day,” SWF Executive Director Darrell Crabbe said. “Hunting, fishing and trapping are entrenched components of Saskatchewan’s heritage and are essential activities for sustainable wildlife management in our province. Thousands of Saskatchewan families enjoy these outdoor activities that leave long memories in addition, hunting and angling contribute to over $500 million into Saskatchewan’s economy every year.”
The Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Act was passed in fall 2009. Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Heritage Day is a special day to celebrate and recognize the significant economic, cultural and social contribution that hunting, fishing and trapping have made to the province and coincides with the opening day of the resident rifle white-tailed deer season.
All hunter are reminded to ensure safety is of foremost importance while in the field. Hunting is a privilege; please get permission to access private land, even when it is not posted.
