QUILL LAKE DRAINAGE REMAINS A THREAT TO OUR WATER
An open public meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Sask Beach community hall. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. Our guest speaker, Dr. Roger Petry, is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Luther College at the University of Regina and a Rhodes Scholar. His expertise and knowledge in the Quill Lakes flooding issue is invaluable and we are very fortunate to have him speak on the subject.
Some of the topics that will be discussed are as follows:
1. A review of concerns about the attempted Common Ground Drainage Diversion Project.
2. The danger of draining water from one watershed, (Quill Lake) to another (Upper/Lower Qu’Appelle):
a. Volumes of water;
b. Saltiness of transferred water and poor mixing at the north end of LML.
c. Chemical composition of transferred water.
3. The Value of Wetlands
Questions and Discussion is welcome!
The Quill Lakes continue to rise and drainage remains a very real threat to our lake. I cannot stress enough the importance of your attendance at this meeting. Any questions you had, or have, can be addressed at this meeting. We all have a vested interest in keeping our lake clean. We owe it to our children and grandchildren.
Please mark your calendar for June 9th and share this information with your contacts. We want the hall to be bulging at the seams with participation.
Thank you.
