License Allocation Changes to the 2023 Saskatchewan Big Game Draw

May 8, 2023 by Courtney Devins

The Saskatchewan Big Game Draw opened on Monday, May 1, 2023, with the big game license allocations for the upcoming 2023 seasons.

The SWF is disappointed that many zones have been allocated significant increases in Mule Deer licences even though severe winters, such as the one we just experienced, negatively impact deer populations throughout the province. There was recognition of this impact in a portion of the zones where the number of Mule Deer tags were reduced.

The SWF has requested a reconciliation of the science used to support quota allocations, in accordance with the Provincial Game Management Plan. The SWF encourages members to reconsider applying for Mule Deer in the zones where quota increases would suggest a proportionate increase in populations.

These factors would indicate that the quality of the hunt would, accordingly, be compromised as well.

If you have already placed your big game draw, please be reminded that you can amend your draw applications by accessing your HAL account prior to May 25th, 2023 at 4:00pm.
