Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation Supports the Passing of The Saskatchewan Firearms Act

April 6, 2023

The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) would like to commend the Saskatchewan Government on the passing of The Saskatchewan Firearms Act.

The Act will:

  • Establish licensing requirements for businesses or individuals involved in firearms expropriation;
  • Require and oversee fair compensation for any firearms being seized;
  • Require forensic and ballistic testing of seized firearms; and
  • Establish a provincial firearms regulatory system that will promote the safe and responsible use of firearms.

The SWF supports this “Made in Saskatchewan” Legislation that will not only ensure and enhance public safety initiatives, but will also support and promote responsible firearm use to the province’s firearm community.

“This act is going to be beneficial by protecting the rights of law abiding licensed firearm users, including hunters, ranchers, farmers, and sport shooters,” says David Yorke, SWF President.

The SWF has over 32,000 members in 123 branches across Saskatchewan, and per capita, are the largest wildlife conservation organization of its kind in the world.
