The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) is very disappointed in the recent decision of the Saskatoon Inn to cave into public pressures from an online anti-hunting petition that has resulted in the corporate decision to cancel their hosting of an African Hunting Expo in Saskatoon in 2016.
Around the world, income generated through regulated hunting is a pivotal source of funding for wildlife and habitat conservation and scientifically based management and research. In Saskatchewan alone, hunting and angling activities generate over half a billion dollars into the province’s economy every year.
Saskatchewan boasts over 250,000 licensed resident anglers and hunters. To date, over 500,000 acres of critical wildlife habitat have been secured in Saskatchewan by direct funding from licensed hunter and angler license fees, fundraising events and critical volunteer activities.
We understand that the Saskatoon Inn was, by this misguided and uninformed petition, forced to make a corporate decision that ultimately supports the anti-hunting movement. However, for over eight decades, the SWF has proudly advocated for Saskatchewan’s hunting, angling and conservation community.
The SWF has had to make a corporate decision to no longer support the Saskatoon Inn for future conventions or meetings, and would invite all Saskatchewan resident hunters, anglers and conservationists to do so as well. We ask that our members contact the Saskatoon Inn to voice their disappointment.
